ARGO Group opened its business and transport activities in 1993 under the brand name AFG Holding. From its establishment, it has been and still is going through a dynamic growth in all areas of logistics. Thus, within a short time, the original family company has grown to a strong European Group that offers to its customers an integrated forwarding system not only within the Czech Republic but also in other EU countries and Asia.
Subsidiary companies offering forwarding services have extended successfully the geographical frame of their operation and so also companies operating in other European regions could have been established – ARGO Slovakia, Argo Hungary, Argo Ukraine TOB, ARGO Poland, and AFG Hamburg. In 2002, the Group made a strategic step. Thanks to the acquisition of the shipping division of former Českloslovenská plavba Labská and the establishment of ČSPL, the Group has become one of the most important forwarder within the Central Europe. The subsidiary companies participate actively in the development of the forwarding services system within European regions and, further, they develop and take part in the realization of new logistic and transport products. Therefore, since 2003, an international system train called Carpáthia Express criss-crosses Europe with the aim and final effect to reinforce the competitive strength of the railway freight transport in the direction to Southeast Asia. ARGO Group participates successfully in directing of this train.
The merger of Argo Bohemia and Argo Internationale Spedition prepared in detail in advance met all strategic expectations and so the "new” entity of ARGO BOHEMIA came into the market on 1 January 2006. The name of the parent company AFG Holding was replaced by the name ARGO GROUP as of 1 January 2006. This strategic decision of the concern’s owner and management has integrated the presentation and identification of all companies of the Group. A successful acquisition of Westtransport Plzeň was made in the first half of the year based on the decision of the holding’s management. Such a commercial step allowed to subsidiary companies to use their own car fleet. It is exactly these steps thanks to which ARGO Group strengthen its position on the European market.
